Why Not Me, Why Not Us?” – A Presidential Declaration by Hon. P.K. Salasya, MP Mumias East
Today, I rise not merely as the Member of Parliament for Mumias East—but as the barefoot child from the dusty plains of Kakamega, the son of a widowed mother, the embodiment of struggle, survival, and stubborn hope. I rise as a Kenyan whose story is etched in the silence of forgotten villages and the cries of neglected schools. I rise because I believe—deeply, fervently—that this nation belongs to all of us, not just the dynasties and their chosen few.
I speak for that child in Biyamadhow Primary School, Wajir County, still waiting for the laptop he was promised—while his MP tours State House corridors seeking praise, not policy. I speak for him because his silence is thunder. His pain is loud.

Yes, I have declared my intention to seek the presidency of the Republic of Kenya in 2027. And yes, they’ve laughed. They’ve scoffed. Some—like Edwin Sifuna—have mocked my accent, my story, my audacity-they have reminded us they went to Law school,we did NOT,yes they had and we never had., But I remain unbowed.

Because I do not stand alone.
I walk with the boda boda rider crushed under the weight of predatory loans-controlled by cartels. I stand with the Aviator addicted youths, the jobless graduate, diploma in hand, begging for a visa to go serve in Saudi Arabia as maids and bouncers. I carry the tears of the single mother whose husband disappeared into the darkness—abducted, never to return. I echo the cries of the mama mbogas, forced to pose for staged PR stunts by politicians who see them as hashtags, not human beings.

These are not statistics. These are my people. They have embraced my candidacy not because I am perfect, but because I am painfully real. I am them. And they are me.

My journey was never gilded. I was not born into wealth. I did not ascend through polished boardrooms or private jets.
I was never visited at school -poverty hang around me..I rose by queuing for bursaries. I rose by being denied. And when I was invisible to the system, I carved a way with grit, grace, and God- I dared to try not once, not twice...and finally God was there for me.
