GOSPEL SINGER IN COURT OVER SH50M LAND SCAM Alex Nyachonga Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on charges related to an alleged Sh50 million land scam.  Ringtone is accused of conspiracy to defraud, false swearing, and perjury, stemming from an attempt to unlawfully claim a 0.1908-hectare parcel of land in Runda. The case originated from a complaint lodged at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters on May 18, 2023. The complainant, a woman who legally owns the property, alleged that Ringtone, alongside his accomplice Juma Ayoro and a group of hired thugs, stormed her Runda residence. The group reportedly forcibly evicted the caretaker and took possession of the property, sparking a legal battle that has now landed the singer in hot water. In an intelligence-led operation, detectives have apprehended Amos Barasa Kasili at Kibera Darajani area, linking him to the tragic shooting of the late Kasipul MP, Hon. Charles Ong'ondo Were, which occurred on April 30, 2025.  This arrest follows a thorough investigation that forensically connected Barasa to the main suspects and placed him at the crime scene on that fateful day.  It was revealed that Barasa served as the rider of the motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP's vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack. Former justice Maraga is claiming  the President spoke well about the abducted victims getting home yet their family are still searching their relatives  It is unconscionable to hear the President claim, without any apology to the victims, parents, and families, that there are no ongoing incidents of enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings and that accountability mechanisms are in effect. Brian Odhiambo’s mother continues to search for her son who was abducted four months ago. There are many other similar cries for justice as we have seen in the petition launched on Mother’s Day by the parents of youth killed during the protests in June 2024.  Such utterances are deeply hurtful especially to parents still mourning the loss of their children.
